Sleep apnea symptoms are difficult to figure out by yourself, but much easier for other people to diagnose, if they are in the same room as you when you sleep. Think of when you hear someone sleeping and snoring. As you listen, they might skip some breaths- this is a clear symptom of sleep apnea. The person suffering from sleep apnea is unaware that they are taking pauses in their breathing, sometimes lasting up to ten seconds.
Chronic snoring is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. Not all people who snore have sleep apnea, but someone who has obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) will snore. OSA is when your airways become obstructed, you snore and your breathing is paused. Sleep apnea is defined as breathing stopping for ten seconds or more.
Sleep apnea has many other possible side effects- including fatigue, depression, sleepiness and just plain grouchiness from lack of sleep. Not having enough sleep can lead to other health problems. If you have a question about sleep apnea, call Premier Dental Care, in Idaho Falls, and we’ll schedule a consultation.
